Daily Market Update (Equities)
For the first time this week, Nigerian Equities market closed on a negative note, as its benchmark index declined marginally by 0.01% to settle at 63,757.23 points. As a result, the Year-to-Date returns on the benchmark index declined to 24.40% (Yesterday: 24.42%). The major market movers for today include MTN Nigeria Communications PLC, Union Bank of Nigeria PLC, Nigerian Breweries PLC, However, their gains were offset by significant losses in Geregu Power PLC, United Bank for Africa PLC and Zenith Bank PLC, causing the equities market to experience a decline.
The companies that traded the highest in terms of Value were GEREGU, PRESCO and DANGSUGAR while those with the highest trade in terms of Volume were JAPAULGOLD, FCMB and DANGSUGAR. The total Volume trade decreased to NGN473.49mn (Yesterday: NGN868.80mn ). Similarly, total Value traded fell to NGN10.08bn (Yesterday: NGN42.81bn)
The top gainers for today were HONYFLOUR, ETERNA and ACADEMY while the top losers were GEREGU, FTNCOCOA and ROYALEX.
Daily Market Update (Fixed Income)
Today, the Nigerian Treasury bills secondary market closed positive as average yield fell by 1.91% to 4.34%. However, the FGN bond market closed negative as average yield increased by 0.05% to 12.75%. This is following increased sales of short-term and mid-term bond instruments.
