Ginika was finishing his last bench press set when his workout buddy Buchi challenged him to a 30-minute-high intensity sprint on the treadmill. The winner gets N30,000 from the loser instantly. The other guys at the gym loved challenges so they all started chanting the names of the contenders.

Ginika got up, wiped the sweat off his face and chest, picked up his phone and looked straight at Buchi “Guy, what’s your account number again?” he said to the shock of all present. Ginika wouldn’t be bothered by aerobic exercises even if it meant he had to lose some money to his buddy. He just didn’t like the feeling of being out of breath that is common with performing cardio exercises.

Coach Frank watched the exchange in amusement. “This fella must really hate the idea of doing cardiovascular exercises”, he thought. He must not be aware of the many benefits of performing regular cardio exercises which include the following:

  • Strengthens the heart and helps it pump blood more efficiently throughout the body.

  • Helps to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

  • Helps to regulate blood sugar.

  • Sleep improvement.

  • Improves lung capacity.

  • Boosts the immune system.

  • Aids in weight loss

Like Ginika, if you shy away from performing cardiovascular exercises, you may want to reconsider seeing as there are obvious benefits to it.
